Határforgalom.hu is a simple informative web application that lists the current waiting times for some border crossings of Hungary.
My original idea was to create a user interface for an existing similar application (BorderWatcher) only on my own, to see if it could be implemented later in consultation with the developer.
That's not what happened.
I kept thinking about my original idea, I wanted to learn something new. I was determined to implement it myself and learn the basics of React in parallel. I like to think in design systems and reusable components.
The application uses big data and is able to list current waiting times from border crossings in real time. I published in early August 2020 and since then the number of organic visitors has reached 100 per day. Most traffic comes from Serbia, Hungary and Austria. More than 70% of the visitors use a mobile device, so it was important to me that the site fit perfectly to even the smallest screen size.
My short-term goal is to expand the site little by little, I constantly pay attention to feedback, traffic, usability using Hotjar. A distant goal is to create a community where users can share each other’s experiences complementing current information.
